In all my years of counseling, I have found this one thing to be true: Life can be hard. I know, because I see “difficult” walk through my door every day. I see men who have allowed their lives to spiral out of control and now, as they hit rock bottom, they have become desperate for help. I also see broken-hearted wives, shocked at what they have just learned about the man they married. I have been free from sexual addiction for over 30 years and I want everyone to experience the freedom that I have.
My heart is to heal the broken hearted and give hope where hope was once lost.
Douglas Weiss, Ph.D.
I want to give you the help you need. For over thirty years, I have been committed to fighting sex addiction, changing lives and restoring relationships. I founded Heart to Heart Counsel Center to specifically further this purpose.
As the Executive Director at Heart to Heart Counseling Center for more than 20 years, I have the opportunity to see many men and women walk in freedom from their sexual addiction. I have also watched many marriages on the brink of divorce begin to heal and become better than ever.
Heart to Heart Counseling Center offers many diverse options for treating sexual addiction and intimacy anorexia recovery including sex addiction counseling, connect groups, recovery materials and 3 and 5 Day Intensives. All of our programs and resources are designed to break the bonds of sexual addiction, restore broken marriages and change lives.
AS AN AUTHOR
In addition to counseling, I am a prolific writer and an Amazon Best Seller, publishing more than 30 books on addiction recovery as well as many books and DVDs for marriage and youth. I have appeared on prestigious national television shows including Oprah and Dr. Phil. My work and writings have also fueled a Lifetime Network movie and an international documentary depicting my private counseling practice.
I have spent decades working in the field of psychology, am a licensed psychologist and hold a Doctorate in the Philosophy of Psychology. My extensive study of the human mind has helped me understand sexual addiction in great detail and given me a background to better help you.
Throughout my extensive career, I have seen first-hand how the addictive process negatively affects human relationships including phases where a loss of intimacy occurs – a condition which I now call “intimacy anorexia.” I have learned how the steps of addiction occur and expand into full-blown deviant behavior.
I have studied the implications of how cognitive pattern recognition and stimulus response factors into addictions and how they are treated with behavioral therapy. I understand what you and your partner are going through with sex addiction and intimacy anorexia and can help you overcome it.
THE AMERICAN ASSOCIATION FOR SEX ADDICTION THERAPY
I am also a huge supporter and advocate of the American Association for Sex Addiction Therapy (AASAT). AASAT is dedicated to training therapists and coaches in the best practices for treating sexual addiction, partner therapy and intimacy anorexia. The association provides three different training certification programs with over 130 hours of classroom training – Certified Sexual Recovery Therapist (SRT), Partners Recovery Therapist (PRT) and Intimacy Anorexia Therapist (IAT).
I have served as the President of AASAT since 2008 and am certified at the SRT, PRT and IAT levels.
I have also had to opportunity to apply my professional expertise to develop the Sex Addiction Training program to train therapists and coaches how to treat sex addiction and offer sex addiction counseling. This training program uses my own methodology and modality, as well as my clinical application for treating sexual addiction and providing proven treatment for sexual addiction recovery.
